Heels, straight up, hurt your feet. Anyone who says otherwise is lying.
That’s why I usually reserve wearing them for an I-just-got-dumped pick-me-up or a (fancy) girls’ night out (and okay, maybe a photo-op). Even then, lasting all night is improbable. I’m more likely to remove them and go bare foot on the dirty city streets than experience the suffering that goes along with pinched toes, blisters and bunions.
But my mind has officially been changed.
No, I’m not talking about some magical new stiletto that gives you killer calves without an ounce of pain. I’m referring to the High Heel Race—the first ever in Montreal, and a reason to slip on those sexy stilettos for a cause (other than the oh-so-noble one of looking extra tall and attractive).
The High Heel Race takes place in Montreal on August 3rd to kick off the Montreal Fashion and Design Festival, with all money raised going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
If that’s not a reason to run sans sensible shoes, I don’t know what is.
Another reason? New shoes, of course! Stick with the theme by shopping for socially responsible ones. My faves?
Clockwise, from top left:
1. Colourful pumps from Neu Aura. Each season, Neu aura elects two charities to receive 10% of all net sales of their shoes. They are also dedicated to protecting animals and the environment.
2. Funky black and blue stilettos. Shoes from Olsen Haus are 100% animal-free and cruelty-free, and produced with human-rights and environmental ethics in mind.
3. Red wedge heels.Every time you purchase a pair of shoes from TOMS, another pair is donated to a child in need.
